Recruiting technical staff

Mechanics, welders, electricians and work planners rarely respond to a job ad full of requirements. They respond to clarity about the work, the hourly rate, the travel distance and who calls them back.

Recruiting technical staff

You do not recruit technical staff through job boards alone, because most skilled workers already have a job and are not actively searching. What does work is a paid campaign per trade and per region, with an ad that shows the work, a landing page with two or three fields and a phone call within the same part of the day. In our own campaigns candidates came in at €8.96 to €30.51 per candidate. Leadstars works on a retainer with an implementation fee, guarantees the agreed lead volume and delivers first results within 7 days.

Key takeaways

  • A single campaign for 'technical staff' does not work. Advertising per trade and per region produces candidates who can actually do the job.
  • Most skilled workers are not actively searching. Your ad therefore has to show the work, not a list of requirements.
  • Cost per candidate in our own campaigns: €8.96 to €30.51. That is a Leadstars figure, not a market average.
  • Calling within the same part of the day matters more in practice than the ad budget. A response after three days is lost.

Why technical recruitment works differently

In technical trades the pool is small and most people already have work. That means you are not competing with other job openings, but with the candidate's current employer. Someone only switches when something concretely improves: a higher hourly rate, less travel time, a different type of project, a permanent contract or more freedom.

That is why ads showing the shop floor work better than polished corporate films, and short honest copy beats a job opening with ten requirements. What you always name: the type of work, the location or radius, and an indication of the hourly rate.

  • Split by trade: mechanic, welder, electrician, CNC machinist, work planner. Each trade needs its own visuals and its own arguments.
  • Advertise on travel distance, not on province. A 25-kilometre radius around the site is nearly always better than a whole region.
  • Keep the form to two or three fields. Every extra field costs you candidates who are scrolling on the couch right now.

How a technical recruitment campaign is built

The build does not differ fundamentally from other recruitment campaigns: audience, offer, ad, landing page, follow-up, optimization. The difference is in the detail. The audience is narrower, the offer has to be more concrete, and follow-up has to be by phone, because skilled workers rarely reply to email.

We build the campaign, the landing page and the follow-up in one go, so first delivery within 7 days of launch stays realistic. After that we steer on cost per candidate per trade.
